"Dune" Hill of the Dragon — Cerro, Iquique - Chile

In the small coastal town of Iquique Chile, in parallel with the Pacific coast, stretched very unusual sand dune called "Dragon Hill" or simply "Dragon". Its height is changing all the time from 140 to 510 meters. It is noteworthy that the planet above the "Dragon Hill" only the dunes of the Sahara desert. Considered the largest "city" sand dune. Scientists suggest that "Dragon Hill" appeared in this place during the last glacial period, about 20,000 years ago. Now, this is a natural dune protective barrier between the coast and the ocean. Today sand dune "Dragon" became a characteristic element of the landscape, the special highlight of Iquique. Dune is very popular among the glider.
